Kisoro district is the local administrative area for the tourism destination area of Mgahinga and Bwindi parks. It has a total square area of 728 Square Kilometres, this is less than half of the total square area of Queen Elizabeth National park,(1978 sqm).
This small district has forests that are home to the rare mountain gorillas and golden monkeys and other shy forest animals like Buffalo, elephants and duikers. Communities around the forests and lakes share a common responsibility to protect the forests and survive on them at the same time.
There can never be tourism when communities do not protect the forests in conjuction with Uganda Wildlife Authority and Tourism Enterprises; while Lake Chahafi resort is quite a distance from the parks, its location on the lake and the surrounding community makes it prudent to arrange for an interaction between the community and the tourists and it is best achieved by a visit to a local school, donation of items of scholastic nature to the teachers and students and also through the interaction in form of performance by the community to the guests during their last night of stay at Lake Chahafi Resort.
We partnered with a philanthropist/owner of near by resource centre who is born and bred in Chahafi just like the directors of Lake Chahafi Resort to support the human capital of the community especially the younger generation. We welcome your support through donation of scholastic materials; You can visit the resource centre and support the local community group that performs at Lake Chahafi Resort.
