The excursion takes three to four hours and starts from the Lake shore to the southern tip of Lake Chahafi where you navigate by a boat with our site guide through the papyrus ringed lake and water lillies that are a habitat of spectular birds.
The southern side of the lake is sorrounded with hills so much of what to see is open waters with possibilities of sighting the African Jacana, pied Kingfisher, hammerkop, grey crowned crane and common moorhen.
You will dock and cross over to see the twin lake Kayumbu and walk back to the lodge through the african village trading centre and see how the rural folk live their lives and while at the lodge you will find a team of staff to welcome you back with refreshments.
This tour can also be done in the after noon from 3pm to 6pm and thereafter Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm and a campfire will be set for you to enjoy the stars. The activities are planned in a way for you to enjoy the breaks and also relax.
We recommend these excursions to enable the guests have a good experience of the surroundings and immerse themselves in the community rather than sleeping and rushing through to Mountain gorillas.
The experience is that one night of arrival before doing mountain gorillas and or golden monkeys is not enough for you to explore the surroundings of Lake Chahafi so two nights are recommended where you will have time to do the mini excursions and as well as enjoy surroundings. Activity cost usd 30 per person with a professional local guide and drinking water is provided.
